There's not even a sign on the door of this handsome brownstone -- that's how much it blends in with its residential neighbors. International visitors and college students have discovered this place, warming to its slightly quirky, visiting-an-old-auntie charm. Check out the old black-and-white photos of Boston in the hallways as you head to your guest room (each is slightly different, as befits an old house). The antiques-filled sitting room functions as a guest room in summertime. Digs are tidy but basic, with hardwood floors; those on the fifth floor are loft-style. Some rooms are small and share a bath. No meals are served, but some of the rooms have kitchenettes. Several restaurants are within walking distance, too. Each room has a two-person occupancy limit, and because of the layout, the house isn't appropriate for children.

What a wonderful find! Well located -- walking distance from the T, from Fenway, and BU -- and so reasonably priced. After booking a room at these prices I expected, frankly, a dump. Far from it. The room was large (the bathrooms are small) and had a kitchenette -- so we saved even more money by eating meal or two in the room. All the rooms are different; check out their web site. I will stay there again, and again, and again. My only criticism -- no coffee maker in the room and the lobby coffee service did not start until 8:30 -- BUT -- there was a great coffee/pastry shop a block away. Oh, no hair dryer -- take your own -- this place is worth it.
