Back Bay

The Back Bay is Boston's trendiest neighborhood, with beautiful boutiques, denim dens, ethnic eateries, hip henna, and cool cone parlors. It offers the best people watching in town, from the designer-bag toting, not-a-hair-out-of-place ladies parading their not-a-hair-out-of-place pooches around Commonwealth Avenue and the Public Gardens, to smart suited types cruising the upper end of Newbury Street. Its residential areas are the epitome of propriety, with urban Victorian architecture, by turns French influenced, Italianate, and reflecting revivals of Gothic and other styles. Copley Place, the Prudential and John Hancock towers, and Symphony Hall are here.
