Built in 1766 as the Troy Tavern & Inn, this hostelry had one brief period as a private home, when it was inhabited by Franklin L. Pope. The portraits of the electrical innovator and his wife are displayed on the mantel in the front room. You enter the inn via the large wraparound porch into an antiques-filled parlor and dining room. The tables and sideboards are filled with fresh flowers and objets d'art. The rooms, many of which have fireplaces and four-poster beds, are appointed with a mix of modern and period furnishings.

This is our third stay at the historic home of innkeepers Marja & Robert Tepper. The combination of Berkshire beauty, European charm and what could be the best breakfast in town makes this a must stop for even the most savvy B&B connoisseur. Native Chef Daryl will lead the way to beautiful waterfalls, scrumptious local dining and best of all, prepare a magnificent breakfast each morning. With freshly baked bread in hand, owner Marja, serves breakfast while her husband considers the cheese and a fine bottle of wine (with the help of his son who lives in Napa Valley) for an afternoon tasting. The lovely rooms are comfortably furnished and charming with timeless treasures. My personal favorite is the Federal Room with a fireplace and second floor porch access.RATING: 5.0

The Wainwright Inn is by far the most delighful experience ever. I was fortunate enough to see every guest room including the new addition of the carraige house. The innkeeper, Marja Tepper is a magnificent hostess and makes you feel at home immediately. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the home has been restored and improved upon in every detail. The closeness to town is an added bonus but there is no place you would rather have breakfast than right in the Wainwright dining room. If you want to have the most relaxing vacation, the Wainright Inn should be your #1 choice.RATING: 5.0
