By Air

Although Trenton's Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport offers the closest airport to the Mount Desert Island region, only one commuter airline, Colgan Air (operated by US Airways Express), services the airport. It flies to Boston and Rockland. Most people prefer Bangor International Airport, an hour's drive from the island. Direct flights are available to and from Boston, New York LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Albany. Major car-rental companies also are found at the airport.
