Westin Michigan Avenue

$$$$, Near North

User Rating: **** 4.4

Fodor's Review:

The lobby of the Westin reminds us of an airport hangar -- long, narrow, and full of folks tapping away on laptops. Location-wise, the hotel scores big, as major malls and flagship shops are within steps of the hotel's front door. Rooms are furnished with specially designed Simmons Heavenly Beds with quilted mattresses -- which guests have raved about and even purchased -- as well as foam, feather, and rolled pillows. The lobby restaurant, the Grill on the Alley, is a steak house with a clubby atmosphere.

Very good

This hotel is generally competent and in a great location. They pull off the Westin mass upscale thing well. Cabs always waiting downstairs. Unlike the W, they still provide coffee service in the room. The rooms are a little on the small side but comfortable and many are recently renovated. The gym is OK, a little cramped. Food is reasonably good; you can get room service from The Grill but they don't volunteer it (or provide a menu). Odd they allow smoking at the bar downstairs it does smell up the lobby of the no-smoking Westin.
