$$$, Near North
Fodor's Review:
It's hard to tell what kind of crowd this hotel will attract, given its complete renovation and name change (it was formerly the Raphael Hotel) -- but its steps-from-Michigan Avenue location is in its favor. Don't dither in the lobby; it's small and -- with just a small check-in desk, a few chairs, and little else -- there's not much excitement there. Guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, however. Dressed in varying shades of a neutral hay color, they have modern-looking bathrooms with rain showers, and excellent city views (ask for a room facing north for a close-up look at the John Hancock Building). Visit the library on the top floor, which has floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that you are free to browse.
