Moloka'i: By Air

By Air

If you're flying in from the mainland United States, you must first make a stop in Honolulu. From there, it's a 25-minute trip to the Friendly Isle.

Airports

Molokai's transportation hub is Hoolehua Airport, a tiny airstrip 8 mi west of Kaunakakai and about 18 mi east of Maunaloa. An even smaller airstrip serves the little community of Kalaupapa on the North Shore.

Information

Hoolehua Airport (808/567-6140). Kalaupapa Airfield (808/567-6331).

Carriers

Island Air, the puddle-jumper arm of Aloha Airlines, provides daily flights between Molokai and Oahu or Maui on its 37-passenger de Haviland Dash-8 aircraft. Pacific Wings operates chartered flights on its nine-passenger Cessna between Oahu and Molokai.

If you fly into the airstrip at Kalaupapa, you must book a ground tour with Damien Tours before you depart. Pacific Wings and Molokai Air Shuttle fly from Honolulu to Kalaupapa. Paragon Air runs charter flights from Maui to Kalaupapa.

To & from the Airport

From Hoolehua Airport, it takes about 10 minutes to reach Kaunakakai and 25 minutes to reach the west end of the island by car. There's no public bus.
