Street biking on this island is a dream for pedalers who like to eat up the miles. Moloka'i's few roads are long, straight, and extremely rural. You can really stretch out and go for it -- no traffic lights and most of the time no traffic. If you don't happen to be one of those athletes who always travels with your own customized cycling tool, you can rent something from Moloka'i Bicycle (808/553-3931) in Kaunakakai.
East End Trails. Moloka'i Bicycle will take mountain bikers out to two-wheel the expansive east end spread of Pu'u O Hoku Ranch. You might ride along an eastern ridge rimming Halawa Valley to four waterfalls and a remote pool for swimming, or pedal on sea cliffs to a secluded beach. 808/553-3931 Moloka'i Bicycle.
Na'iwa Mountain Trails. Guides from Moloka'i Fish and Dive take biking extremists on a gorgeous but challenging adventure in Na'iwa -- the remote central mountains -- for convoluted forest courses, daredevil verticals (if you want), and exhilarating miles at the brink of the world's tallest sea cliffs. 61 Ala Malama St., Kaunakakai. 808/553-5926. molokaifishanddive.com.
Single-Track Trails at Moloka'i Ranch. Moloka'i Ranch, headquartered in the small town of Maunaloa, was once known for some of the best mountain-bike experiences in the world, but lately the trails have deteriorated and are overgrown. Expect to have to hoist your bike over a locked gate. If you want to try anyway, Moloka'i Fish and Dive runs the activity desk at the Ranch, and has a rental shop with older mountain bikes and related two-wheel gear. 61 Ala Malama St., Kaunakakai. 808/553-5926. molokaifishanddive.com.
