Airports in Maui

Airports

All of Hawaii's major islands have their own airports, but Honolulu's International Airport is the main stopover for most flights -- both international and Mainland. From Honolulu, there are departing flights to Maui leaving almost every hour from early morning until evening. In addition, some carriers now offer nonstop service directly from the Mainland to Maui on a limited basis. Flights from Honolulu into Lanai and Molokai are offered several times a day. Hawaii's airports are "open-air," meaning you can enjoy those tradewind breezes up until the moment you step on the plane.

Honolulu/Oahu Airport

Hawaii's major airport is Honolulu International, on Oahu, 20 minutes (9 mi) west of Waikiki. To travel interisland from Honolulu, you can depart from either the interisland terminal or the commuter-airline terminal, located in two separate structures adjacent to the main overseas terminal building. A free bus service, the Wiki Wiki Shuttle, operates between terminals.

Maui Airports

Maui has two major airports. Kahului Airport handles major airlines and interisland flights; it's the only airport on Maui that has direct service from the mainland. Kapalua-West Maui Airport is served by Aloha Airlines and Pacific Wings. If you're staying in West Maui and you're flying in from another island, you can avoid the hour drive from the Kahului Airport by flying into Kapalua-West Maui Airport. The tiny town of Hana in East Maui also has an airstrip, served by commuter planes from Honolulu and charter flights from Kahului and Kapalua. Flying here is a great option if you want to avoid the long and windy drive to Hana from one of the other airports.

Molokai & Lanai

Molokai's Hoolehua Airport is small and centrally located, as is Lanai Airport. Both rural airports handle a limited number of flights per day. Visitors coming from the mainland to these islands must first stop in Oahu and change to an interisland flight.
