Maui: National Parks & State Parks

National Parks & State Parks

Maui County boasts one of the most spectacular national parks in the country. Stretching for nearly 30,000 acres from the summit at Haleakala crater to the lush, verdant valleys of Kipahulu, Haleakala National Park affords dozens of opportunities for exploration. Molokai's Kalaupapa National Historical Park was once a leper colony where victims of Hansen's disease were sent into exile in the late 1800s and cared for by Father Damien, a Belgian missionary.

State parks throughout Maui, Molokai and Lanai encompass thousands of acres and include many beautiful beaches and coastal areas. The State Parks Division of the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources can provide information on state parks and historic areas.
