If you really want to treat yourself to a luxurious getaway, spend a few nights at this Bali-inspired B&B. In the foothills of the West Maui Mountains, just south of Lahaina town, this stunning property brings the words "quiet perfection" to mind. As you enter the house your eye is immediately drawn to the immense glass doors that open onto a small but sparkling pool and a breathtaking view of the Pacific. Almost all of the furnishings and the materials used to build the house were imported from Bali. Two "conversation tables" in the common area are filled with Balinese cushions, providing great spots to snack, chat, or just relax. Each room is uniquely decorated and features traditional Balinese doors with mother-of-pearl inlay, a custom bed, a private lanai, a huge bathroom with a giant bathtub, an iPod docking station, and best of all -- a private outdoor shower. A little bit of heaven

What a wonderful place. Unfortunately the host where not there that week. We had a bit of the same problem with the cleaning and supplies but why let it bother us. I would of liked a little variety for breakfast when staying for 1 week. Having said that we would problaby go again. The Hana room had the privacy we wanted with the view and great outdoor shower that we just loved.

Beutiful B&B, Needs Improvement Cleaning

Aloha -
My husband and I stayed at Ho'oilo House for over a week in January. It is truly a beautiful B&B in a beautiful, spectacular location. The views of the mountains in the back, and ocean in the front are amazing!! We especially loved our private outdoor shower, with views of the ocean!!!! Dan is more of the host, and Amy makes the continental breakfast every morning. We didn't talk to her much as she was usually busy making breakfast or taking care of their 3-year old daughter.
On the downside, Dan didn't seem too knowledgeable about all the activities, for example one of the housekeepers, and the pilot on Blue Hawaiian gave us great recommendations for horseback riding, but Dan had no information to offer when asked. There is actually horseback riding in the mountains that are right in their backyard! They hadn't even tried the best Italian restaurant in town that was 2 years old! The continental breakfast was great, but we grew tired of having the same breakfast every day during the course of our long stay.
Finally, the biggest downside was the lack of a clean bathroom. It seemed their housekeeper was out for most of that first week of our stay, and Dan and Amy were cleaning the rooms. The toilet in our room was quite dirty for the entire first week, beginning with the day of our arrival! We thought they were permanent stains, so did not say anything, but on our last few nights the toilet was cleaned spotless (when the housekeeper returned). As co-owners of the B&B, they should clean the bathroom when their housekeeper is out. But, it's a fairly new business, they are young, have a young child to tend after, and were finally made aware of what had transpired, so hopefully they will improve in the cleanliness department.
Overall, I would highly recommend Ho'oilo House. It is quite romantic, the B&B in itself is lovely, the views are spectacular, and the privacy can't be beat.
Mahalo!!

Maui's Gem

The Ho'oilo House was a perfect place to spend our honeymoon. We loved how peaceful it was to come back to every night and we felt like we were staying at our friend's house. Though this was our first trip to Maui we wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. The breakfasts were delicious, our room was very cozy and clean, the hosts were extremely friendly, and the location couldn't have been better. We loved it and can't wait to go back!!

AMAZING RETREAT

An unbelievable treat. The property itself is simply gorgeous. The owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The stress melts off you the minute you walk through the door. The breakfast is fabulous. You feel like you have the run of the place. The Hooli House doesn't miss a beat.

It just doesn't get better

We are so glad to see that Fodors "discovered" what we already knew, that the Ho'oilo House is simply the best there is on Maui. From delectable muffins in the morning to the perfect view, once you stay there no where else will quite compare. Our only regret, it may be tough for us to get a room if everyone else "finds" this gem.

A Relaxing Retreat

My boyfriend and I stayed for 5 nights and it was absolutely perfect. The room we had was charming and tasteful. The breakfast was delicious. The overall feeling at the inn was comfortable and inviting. Since Maui can be touristy at times, it's a relief to go home to a place like this at the end of the day.
