The cascading waterfall in the lobby of this hotel gives way to an "aquatic playground" with 5 heated swimming pools, abundant waterfalls (15 at last count), lagoons complete with pink flamingos, and a premier beach. The water features combined with a spa and fitness center, and privileges at two 18-hole golf courses make this an active resort -- great for families. Relaxation is by no means forgotten. Elegant dark-wood furnishings in the rooms accentuate the crisp linens of "Heavenly Beds." Rooms in the Beach Tower are newer but slightly smaller than those in the Ocean Tower. The 13,000-square-foot Heavenly Spa features 11 treatment rooms and a yoga studio.

Better now than it used to be...

Place has been refurbished/revived a few times. Westin has done a good job of making classy rooms out of what used to be cramped quarters in the original hotel. Views are good even on the mountain side if you're high up.

Ignore the Time Share Pitches
Posted by Mike from Wichita on 5/16/06
The primary mission of the Westin Maui Hotel is to.... sell time shares. Our first morning, the phone rang from a time share sales person at 8:30am. When we returned over the noon hour, the sales people had left phone messages at 10:30 and 11:30. I called the manager and told them to cut it out and we did not have any more problems with them.
There are at least two offices on the oceanside sidewalk selling timeshares and multiple offices withing the hotel selling timeshares.
If you can ignore the timeshare pitches (and, they eventually fade into the background during an extended stay), it is a good hotel, but a bit dated. I rated the Service a 3 because of the time share emphasis (annoying). Otherwise the service would have been a "4."
The rooms are small but well kept. Housekeeping is very prompt and friendly. There is a 'fridge in each room.
The quality of the food at the pool restaurant is surprisingly good.
I really enjoyed my massage. The spa is very nice. Good exercise room.
Take your laptop if you need to get on the internet. With the $15/day "resort fee" in-room access is free, but renting access is very expensive.

Outstanding Hotel!
Posted by Donna from Raleigh, NC on 10/31/05
We just returned today from our stay at the Westin and I couldn't wait to write my review. This resort fulfilled my tropical getaway fantasy. We are used to staying in VERY high end hotels and even with a mountain view room were completely pleased. Lovely decor. The pools and beach and the service at pool side were absolutely amazing. I could not believe how uncrowded the pools and beach were after reading some reviews here. It may have been that we were there in October, but we were always able to find a spot. While the resort's restaurants seemed nice, we ate at several places nearby instead. I recommend CJ's Deli very nearby for a huge delicious and affordable breakfast and the Hula Grill for the best cocktails and very good lunch food. Also Laihana Grill is not to be missed for an elegant dinner. Cannot wait to return to the Westin!
