You'll Never Have Fresher Pineapple
Posted by allthedoll from San Diego on 3/3/07
The maze of bushes was cool; it was a bit thin when I went due to people trampling it and it recovering from the busy season - but I loved it. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you might have more fun.... Don't ask.
It is, however, a tourist trap with a huge giftshop full of stuff you don't want but the oven mits make for a great lobster imitation when you're sun burned - that's my favorite picture from my whole week trip to see a friend.
The gift shop also has pineapple ice cream, which is delightful, as well as many other delicious-looking pineapple snacks.
If you go, don't ride the train unless you have really small kids who might like it - even then, be weary.
I wouldn't go to Oahu and not see the plantation, though. I never really thought about where those pineapples come from but its absolutely amazing to see field upon field of them.

A different view of the life

This could be viewed as a tourist trap but it also provides a view of another part of the life on the island. The garden is lovely, the hibiscus varieties were especially picturesque.
The train tour helped to explain why pineapples cost so much! They are still planted by hand.
The shop was badly overcrowded but the outside has plenty of room for setting out your own picnic.
