Fodor's Review:
Pahu ia means "aquarium," so it's fitting that a 9- by 4-foot aquarium in the entrance casts a dreamy light through this exquisite restaurant. Presentation is paramount -- tables are beautifully set, with handblown glassware -- and the food tastes as good as it looks. Asian-influenced dishes stand out for their layers of flavor. Don't miss the three sashimi and three caviar appetizers, or the crispy whole moi served with Asian slaw, black beans, and sweet chili-lime vinaigrette. Breakfast is also superb; there's a buffet, as well as a menu. Their lemon ricotta pancakes are so good they should be illegal. Reserve a table on the patio and you may be able to spot whales while dining. At sunset, the oceanfront tables in the upstairs Lava Lounge are an excellent spot to take it all in.

Beautiful View and Wonderful Service

You need reservation for dinner (and if you're not staying at the hotel, the guard checks your name on the reservation list before letting you on the premises). If you want a table on the oceanfront patio, book well in advance like we did and take a hat--most of it is unshaded. Service is truly magnificent, professional, and unpretentious. The food is also very good--the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that the sauce on a portion of my shrimp dinner was extremely salty to the point of making my gums burn. We eat out at high end restaurants a lot and have no problem shelling out big bucks for great food (I have posted excellent reviews on this site for way more expensive restaurants.) However, I felt compelled to give it a 2 for value because my shrimp dinner cost almost $40 and there were THREE shrimp on my plate.Incredible

Food was very good, service was extraordinary, and the location is amazing. It'll cost you (I spent $160 I think for my wife and I), but it's worth it, especially if you get graced with a good sunset.If you have only one night to splurge, eat here!

This is the dining expierence that you do not want to miss on the Big Island. It has all the charm and atmosphere of the other equally high priced places yet also addresses some of thier sortcomings. The dinings areas are covered to avoid the hassle of a shower, plenty of space between tables, excellent food and wonderful service of a Four Seasons trained staff. Not for the financially weak of heart.
