Fodor's Review:

On the very rim of a volcano, this place has knockout views of Kilauea Caldera that make it worth a visit even if you're not staying here. It's the only lodging option (except for cabins and campsites) within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Book a crater-view room as far from the busy dining room area as possible. Alas, the 1941 hotel is looking a bit worn, with tired carpeting and '50s-era furnishings.

Not Worth Staying At

Posted by vrivera from New York City, New York on 7/27/07

Our family was very dissappointed in the lodging at the Volcano House. Yes, it was described as old, but the lodging could at least provide an alarm clock in each room. We understood that there was no telephone, television in each room. People staying at lodging had no respect for others - late at night (after 11:00 pm) being rowdy and loud outside the building - and employees didnot control noise. We wouldn't come back to this lodging next time, will look for a place in Kona. For the price we paid (over priced) on the room, it was not worth staying here.
