Fodor's Review:

What started as a small roadside stand in 1924, across from Grayson Stadium, has grown into one of the city's beloved mainstays, with a menu that includes Brunswick stew, steaks, fried chicken, seafood, and meats spiced with the restaurant's famous tomato-and-mustard sauces. The hickory smoked BBQ pork is a treat, and their sauces are now so famous that they bottle them for take-home and shipping. Originally, the booths had doors and catered to business and romantic tête-à-têtes. The privacy doors have long gone though the old service bell's still there, and they're still the most comfortable seats in the house.

The Best BBQ Lamb on Earth

Posted by littlefrankie from New York on 12/25/07

The BBQ Lamb is something special to sink your teeth into. Enjoy it with tomato aspic and fried green tomatos. The review of Syl form Baltimeore indicates a lack of BBQ knowledge. The reason for 1 sauce is there is only 1 Johnny Harris sauce, I have it shipped to me in New York.

Over 80 years old!

Just returned from a visit to Savannah,GA and ate at a Savannah institution...Johnny Harris. The waiter was excellent and suggested some of their old time Savannah favorites. The food was all great. We also tried a chocolate dessert that won first place in a city wide contest...it was super.
