The Colony

Fodor's Review:

What distinguishes this legendary pale-yellow British colonial–style hotel is that it's only one short block from Worth Avenue and one block from a beautiful beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Having just celebrated its 60th birthday, the hotel's lobby and pool area has had a face-lift, with ornamental plants, fountains, new lighting, wicker furniture, and billowing white panels reminiscent of South Beach's luxurious Delano. An attentive staff, youthful yet experienced, is buzzing with competence and a desire to please. Guest rooms are decorated in Caribbean-colonial, with sunny yellow walls and dark mahogany desks, and pineapple-carved poster beds grace some rooms. Roomy suites and luxurious two-bedroom villas (rentable by the week or month) have laundry facilities and full kitchens. Reserve early for the dinner cabaret shows, which have featured entertainers such as Faith Prince and Andrea Marcovicci. Pros: Close to Worth Avenue and the beach. Cons: Elevators are small.
