Bongos Cuban Café

$$$-$$$$, Caribbean, Downtown Disney

User Rating: **** 4.3

Fodor's Review:

Singer Gloria Estefan's Cuban eatery is inside a two-story building shaped like a pineapple. Hot-pressed Cuban sandwiches, black-bean soup, deep-fried plantain chips, and beans and rice are mainstays on the menu for the lunch crowd. One of the best entrées is "La Habana," lobster, shrimp, scallops, squid, clams, and mussels in a piquant creole sauce. Other worthwhile offerings include masitas de puerco (pork chunks served with grilled onions) and vaca frita, marinated flank steak served with rice and yucca. There's live Latin music on Friday and Saturday.

Better than expected!!

We were there in Oct of '07 and being hispanic we were expecting run of the mill latin food you would get at your local mexican or other latin restaurants. It was not that at all. The food was very good, I had the masitas de puerco or Deep fried pork chunks with black rice and beans, yucca in a garlic and butter mojo and platanos maduros or fried plantains. Tasted very authentic and the service was great! I would definitely go back!
