In the charming town of Mount Dora (30 mi northwest of downtown Orlando), Renninger's may be Florida's largest gathering of antiques and collectibles dealers. At the top of the hill, 400 flea-market dealers sell household goods, garage-sale surplus, produce, baked goods, pets, and anything else you can think of. At the bottom of the hill, 200 antiques dealers set up shop to sell ephemera, old phonographs, deco fixtures, antique furniture, and other stuff Granny had in her attic. If you have the time, hit the flea market first, since that's where antiques dealers find many of their treasures. Both markets are open every weekend, but on the third weekend of the month the antiques market has a fair attracting about 500 dealers. The really big shows, however, are the three-day extravaganzas held on the third weekends of November, January, and February – these draw approximately 1,500 dealers. These events can be all-day affairs; otherwise, spend the morning at Renninger's and then move on to downtown Mount Dora in time for lunch. From I-4, take the Florida Turnpike north to Exit 267A to reach Highway 429 east and, 8 mi later, Highway 441 north to Mount Dora. Summers are very slow, the pace picks up from October through May.
