Mickey's PhilharMagic

Amusement Parks, Magic Kingdom

Fodor's Review:

Duration: 12 min.

Crowds: Heavy.

Strategy: You could grab a Fastpass, but they're probably better spent on Pooh and Peter Pan. It's a big theater, so you shouldn't have to wait long. Go during the parade for the shortest lines.

Audience: All ages.

Rating:

Mickey Mouse may be the headliner here, but it's Donald Duck's misadventures -- reminiscent of Mickey's as the sorcerer's apprentice in Fantasia -- that set the comic pace in this gorgeous, 3-D animated film. As you settle into your theater seat, the on-screen action takes you behind the curtains at a grand concert hall where Donald and Mickey are preparing for a musical performance. But when Donald misuses Mickey's magical sorcerer's hat, he suddenly finds himself on a whirlwind journey that includes a magic carpet ride and an electrifying dip under the sea. And you go along for the ride. On the way you meet favorite Disney characters including Ariel, Simba, Aladdin and Jasmine, and Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. The film startles with its special-effects technology -- you'll smell a fresh-baked apple pie, feel the rush of air as champagne corks pop, and get lost in the action on one of the largest screens ever created for a 3-D film: a 150-foot-wide canvas. The film is beautifully scored, with popular tunes like "Be Our Guest" and "Part of Your World," and it marks the first time that classic Disney characters appear in a computer-generated animation attraction.
