Amusement Parks, Islands of Adventure
Fodor's Review:
Even if you've never heard of Peter Parker or J. Jonah Jameson, the 4 1/2 minutes spent in this building can make an hour standing in line worthwhile. Unlike any other ride at any theme park, this one combines moving vehicles, 3-D film, simulator technology, and special effects. Unless you use the Universal Express Pass, expect a winding and torturous walk in line through the Daily Bugle's offices. You learn that members of the Sinister Syndicate (Doctor Octopus [aka Doc Oc], Electro, Hobgoblin, Hydro Man, and deadly Scream) have used their Doomsday Anti-Gravity Gun to steal the Statue of Liberty. None of this matters, really, since once you board your car and don your 3-D glasses, you're instantly swept up into a weird cartoon battle. When Spider-Man lands on your car, you feel the bump; when Electro runs overhead, you hear his footsteps following you. You feel the sizzle of electricity, a frigid spray of water from Hydro Man, and the heat from a flaming pumpkin tossed by the Hobgoblin. No matter how many times you visit this attraction, you cringe when Doc Oc breaks through a brick wall, raises your car to the top of a skyscraper, and then releases you for a 400-foot free fall to the pavement below. The bizarre angles and perspective at which scenes are shown are so disorienting, you really do feel as if you're swinging from a web. Do not miss this one.
