Anokha

$-$$$, Indian, Coconut Grove

User Rating: ** 2.0

Fodor's Review:

There is no doubt that all Indians love food, the menu says at Anokha, and there's also no doubt that all Miamians love this Indian food: shrimp cooked in pungent mustard sauce, fish soothed with an almond-cream curry, chicken wrapped in spinach and cilantro. The wait between starters such as the Anokha roll (a combo of chicken and coriander enclosed in an egg-battered roti) and main courses such as the Kashmiri rogan josh (lamb in red curry sauce) can seem as long as a cab ride in Manhattan during rush hour. Don't fret -- there's only one cook, and she's worth the delay.

Nastiest experience

Posted by roseshel from Miami on 9/9/07

We heard that this was the best Indian food in town- (considering that there aren't hardly any Indian restaurants left in Miami) we were anxious to try it out. Big Mistake. The food wasn't bad but the atmosphere was non-existent(Having grown up in NYC Indian restaurants were lovely) bare walls uncomfortable seats and worst of all a Nasty owner/ manager to complete the scene. They obviously think they are so good that being rude to a customer is acceptable. We criticized the 18% gratuity(would have given 20%- the waitress was fine) but to charge for rice(without informing us) and to charge tax and gratuity on a $15 corkage fee and on sales tax- we paid $18 per course and nothing was included! Meal came to $82- for what little we received- no leftovers would be possible with the tiny serving) Definitely would not recommend-big rip-off.

Worst Indian Food and Dining Experience

Posted by bobby19 from Miami on 5/1/07

I know there aren't many Indian restaurants in Miami...but this is one to avoid. The service here is TERRIBLE. We waited 1.25 hours before even getting our appetizer. The food is eh, not so great. I've had much better food at places that are less expensive. And the prices are too much for what they give you (ie rice = $5....yeah your dish doesn't come with rice - are you supposed to eat it with your hands?). Oh, and in case you are irritated about the service, food, or whatever you'll still end up paying the 18% gratuity for the awful experience. Avoid!

Mediocre Indian food

Posted by msdillo from Hilton Head, SC on 1/6/07

We have a lot of experience with good Indian restaurants. This one was just so so and we drove a long way to get to it based on the reviews. Someone said it was the best in Miami. If so, there must be a dearth of Indian restaurants. We were also surprised that we didn't get rice with our meal. We lived in DC for a long time and are used to quality Indian food. If that's what you are looking for, I would skip this one. Overpriced and just mediocre.

Food taste and quality was terrible. This is not an authentic indian experience. To add insult rice cost extra and prices were rediculous. All this for food that was not indian. Stay Away.
