Bass Museum of Art

Art Galleries, South Beach/Miami Beach

Fodor's Review:

This provocative and growing museum on the northern fringes of South Beach (on land given to the city by Miami Beach founder John Collins) has substantial exhibition space, a café, and a courtyard. Its expansion is part of a two-square-block Miami Beach Cultural Campus, which also houses the Miami City Ballet. Although its permanent collection includes an Albrecht Dürer and a Peter Paul Rubens, the Bass is most notable for visits by traveling exhibits of contemporary art, such as the recent Haitian Spirit, which featured selections from filmmaker Jonathan Demme's renowned Haitian art collection as well as photographer Bruce Weber's powerful series documenting Haitian life in Miami.
