Art Galleries, South Beach/Miami Beach
Fodor's Review:
Thousands of artifacts of the applied, decorative, and commercial arts of the 19th and 20th centuries are on display at this stylish museum of modern art and design. Collected from around the world by Wometco heir Mitchell Wolfson Jr., the pieces occupy an elegant former storage facility. The Wolfsonian's collection is concerned with the power of propaganda in art, and its exhibitions accentuate the ideological role of design in industrialization, consumerism, and politics. It regularly mounts exhibitions on European and American art and design, including world's fairs and architecture, British Arts and Crafts, and glorious German graphic design. The museum is administered by Florida International University.
