To help you identify your Sanibel Island beach finds, stop at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, where a shell-finder display identifies specimens from local waters in sizes ranging from tiny to huge. Thirty-five vignettes and exhibits explore shells in the environment, art, and history, including a life-size display of native Calusa and how they used shells for tools and food. Handle shell specimens and play games in the colorful kids' lab. A 6-foot globe at the center of the museum rotunda highlights shells from around the world.
