$$$$, Fort Myers
Fodor's Review:
Families and business folk who want luxury without Sanibel Island price tags flock to this high-rise resort complex. It is not on Sanibel proper but instead towers over the bay at the last mainland exit before the causeway. Choose from three lodging options -- a concierge club-style inn, the hotel, and condos -- all with sweeping views of island-studded San Carlos Bay. There's also tennis, the best resort spa in the Fort Myers area, restaurants (one of which is a buffet-dining yacht), the gorgeous circular windowed Charley's Bar, and a large free-form pool, among other facilities and activities. Rent a kayak, take a wildlife-viewing cruise, or go fishing. The beach is small and bayside, but transportation to Sanibel's beaches is free. Pros: luxury accommodations, full amenities, great views. Cons: daily amenities fee added to rate, unspectacular beach, high rates.
