Fodor's Review:

Marco Island was once part of the ancient Calusa kingdom. The Marco Cat, a statue found in 1896 excavations, has become symbolic of the island's prehistoric significance. A replica of the original, which is kept by the Smithsonian Institution, is among displays illuminating ancient past to modern present at the Marco Island Historical Society Museum. Both it and its unstaffed branch location interpret local history through vignettes, video, and artifacts.
