Broadwalk

Promenades / Boardwalks, Hollywood

Fodor's Review:

With the Intracoastal Waterway nearby to its west and the beach and ocean immediately east, the newly spiffed-up 2[1/5]-mi paved promenade known as the Broadwalk has lured pedestrians and cyclists since 1924. Thanks to a $14 million makeover, this stretch has taken on new luster for the buff, the nubile, the laid-back, and the retired. Kids also thrive here: there are play areas, rental bicycles-for-two, trikes, and other wheeled, pedal-powered gizmos. Expect to hear French spoken along this scenic stretch that now has an 18-inch decorative wall separating sand and the promenade, since Hollywood Beach has been a favorite getaway for Québecois ever since Joseph Young hired French-Canadians to work here in the 1920s. Conversations in Spanish and Portuguese are also frequently overheard on this path.
