A route originally mapped and documented by an eager Eagle Scout as part of a merit-badge project, this trail has become a Tallahassee sightseeing staple. The starting point is the New Capitol, where you can pick up maps and descriptive brochures at the visitor center. You'll walk through the Park Avenue and Calhoun Street historic districts, which will take you back to Territorial days and the era of postwar reconstruction. The trail is dotted with landmark churches and cemeteries, along with outstanding examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, and prairie-style architecture. Some houses are open to the public. The Brokaw-McDougall House (329 N. Meridian St. Weekdays 9-3. Free) is a superb example of the Greek Revival and Italianate styles. The Meginnis-Monroe House (125 N. Gadsden St. Free. Tues.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. 2-5) served as a field hospital during the Civil War and is now an art gallery.
