$$$, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
Grand and gorgeous as this double town house is, it's hard to imagine it as a private home, which it was until 2002. Now its eclectic magnificence is yours to enjoy, along with a terrific collection of African antiquities adorning sitting and guest rooms. Original 1867 wood floors are throughout; much of the rest has been salvaged from local antiques furnishers as this neighborhood has gentrified. Sleeping quarters are roomy, with satin coverlets, huge closets, high ceilings and the same selective, just-so taste that blesses the sitting and dining rooms. Two of the rooms share a bath -- they can be booked as a suite, or bathless for a lower price.
