Lebanese Taverna

$, Middle Eastern, Woodley Park

User Rating: ** 1.8

Fodor's Review:

Lebanese Taverna. Arched ceilings, cedar panels etched with leaf patterns, woven rugs, and brass lighting fixtures give the Taverna a warm elegance. Start with an order of Arabic bread baked in a wood-burning oven. Lamb, beef, chicken, and seafood are either grilled on kebabs, slow roasted, or smothered with a garlicky yogurt sauce. A group can make a meal of the meze platters -- a mix of appetizers and sliced shawarma (spit-roasted lamb).

Perhaps the most overrated Middle East restaurant in DC metro area (but it's true, the meze platter is ample), accompanied by sometimes surly and often unresponsive waiters. Far better bet: Bacchus, in nearby downtown Bethesda, MD. Or try other nearby Adams-Morgan eateries (there's one just across the Calvert St. bridge, within walking distance).
