Teatro Goldoni

$$-$$$, Italian, Downtown

User Rating: ** 1.6

Fodor's Review:

Named for an 18th-century Venitian playwright, this restaurant with a colorful interior is a showcase for chef Fabrizio Aielli's modern-meets-traditional Italian cooking. For a first course, try an unusual pasta dish, such as chocolate pappardelle with a royal boar ragù. At the center of the menu is a selection of fresh fish, which may be grilled, roasted, or cooked in parchment paper Venetian-style. There's also a wide selection of vegetarian entrées. Listen to live jazz here on Friday and Saturday.

Just horrible food. Could Hardly Believe It.

We eat out at mid and upper DC restaurants every week. It's a great food town. Went to Teatro Goldoni for DC Restaurant Week to try a new spot. What a horrible disappointment. The entrees were basically out of a can. Tortellini with a meat sauce which was a poor imitation of Chef Boyardee -- inedible. A salmon dish with the fish cooked to something worse than canned fish: dry and tasteless. This is an upscale DC eatery? Save your money. A restaurant which won't try to make 'specials' actually be special isn't worth risking another visit.
