National Museum of Health and Medicine

Museums / Galleries, Upper Northwest

Fodor's Review:

Open since the 1860s, this medical museum illustrates medicine's fight against injury and disease. It has one of the world's largest collections of microscopes. Because some exhibits are fairly graphic (the wax surgical models and the preserved organs come to mind), the museum may not be suitable for young children or the squeamish. The museum is on the campus of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, so you may be asked for identification going in; cars entering the campus are frequently stopped for inspection. To get here from Adams-Morgan, catch Bus S2 or S4 to Silver Spring on 16th Street.
