Architectural Sites, Alexandria
Fodor's Review:
One of the most noteworthy structures in Alexandria, the Athenaeum is a striking, reddish-brown Greek Revival edifice at the corner of Prince and Lee streets. It was built as a bank in the 1850s and is now home to the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association. The volunteer-staffed gallery showing ongoing art exhibits is open most Wednesday to Friday afternoons from noon to 3 and weekends from 1 to 5.
