¢, Japanese, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
This informal teahouse stocks more than 50 teas (black, white, and green) imported from India, Japan, and Africa, but it also serves healthful and delicious Japanese, Indian, and Thai food as well as tea-friendly sweets like ginger scones, plum muffins, and salty oat cookies. You can mix small dishes -- tandoori kebabs, tea-cured salmon, Indian flat breads -- to create meals or snacks. There's also a juicy ostrich burger or ochazuke, green tea poured over seasoned rice. The smaller Connecticut Avenue branch (enter around the corner, on H Street; closed on weekends) is tucked neatly on a corner adjacent to Lafayette Park and the White House, a casual reprieve from neighboring high-priced restaurants. It's a perfect spot to grab lunch after touring the nation's power center. Breakfast is served daily. The original Teaism is on Dupont Circle.
