At this Old West-style restaurant ($$-$$$) you'll feel like you're being watched -- dozens of massive trophy elk and deer peer down from every wall. Peruse the menu with lively stories of Meeker's past, then try the homemade soup, chicken-fried steak, and mashed potatoes with cream gravy. The hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is filled with a veritable forest of rustic furniture. The lobby is lined with framed broadsheet biographies of famous figures -- such as Teddy Roosevelt and, more recently, Dick Cheney -- who stayed here. Rooms have claw-foot tubs and heavy beds; the bargain-price bunk wing has rooms with shared baths. Pros: delightful decor, delicious food in the café, bargain-hunters can go the communal-bathroom route. Cons: the café can get crowded and noisy, the walls are paper thin.
