$$$$, American, SoMa
Fodor's Review:
A clubhouse for well-off diners, this swanky spot is tucked away in the Palomar Hotel. Fifth Floor's 75-seat room, which is done up in dark woods with a silver-leaf ceiling, pairs perfectly with its classy dishes, such as fennel-crusted venison with golden polenta cake, rack of lamb with salsify, and ocean trout with braised celery root. Desserts might include chili-scented chocolate custard and dark fudge cake with dulce de leche ice cream, or pear tarte tatin with huckleberry-port compote and clove-walnut ice cream. Consider the tasting menu (with or without wine) when you have both money and time.
