$$$-$$$$, French, Nob Hill
Fodor's Review:
Two distinctly different eating destinations are harbored in this neoclassic Nob Hill showplace. The formal Dining Room ($$$$), with French windows, fine linens, and an encyclopedic wine list, serves only prix-fixe French seasonal dinners, priced by the number of courses (three, six, and nine, the last by advance request). The tariff is ski-slope steep, but the food -- foie gras with spicy pickled huckleberries, filet mignon with marrow -- and service are worth it. The Terrace ($$$), a cheerful, informal spot with a Mediterranean-inspired menu and a large garden patio for outdoor dining, serves breakfast and lunch daily, a Sunday jazz brunch, and dinner Sunday and Monday.
