$-$$, Van Ness/Civic Center
Fodor's Review:
Within blocks of Davies Symphony Hall and the War Memorial Opera House, this hotel has hosted such music, dance, and opera stars as Luciano Pavarotti and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Beyond the genteel marble-floor lobby, modern and compact standard rooms have dark-wood furnishings, queen-size pillow-top beds with 250-thread-count sheets, and terry robes. The sumptuous, dimly lighted Ovation restaurant, where performers and audiences congregate before and after performances, is deliciously intimate. Rates include an expanded continental breakfast buffet and complimentary cookies and apples at the front desk. An Internet kiosk in the lobby ($10 per hour) has its own printer.
