Fodor's Review:

This landmark hotel was the world's largest and most luxurious when it opened in 1875, and its rich history is documented in the lobby, which is filled with a display of menus, photographs, postcards, and table settings. Completely rebuilt after the earthquake and fire of 1906, the carriage entrance became the beautiful Garden Court restaurant, with its 10 graceful chandeliers, and eight pairs of marble columns supporting a magnificent domed ceiling. Rooms, with twice-daily maid service and nightly turndown, have 14-foot ceilings, traditional mahogany furnishings, and marble bathrooms. The wood-paneled Pied Piper Bar is named for its delightful 1909 Maxfield Parrish mural.

Worthy of the Name

We stayed at the Palace shortly before Christmas and took advantage of the holiday buffet. Pricey I guess but typical of a great dining adventure. We ate until we dropped. Plan to go back next year. The room was delightful and rather romantic. They graciously upgraded us facing market street. The rooms are older design but what one would expect from this age hotel. I would not have wanted something out of the 90;s in a 100 year old hotel That is part of the charm. The service at the hotel was wonderful. Staff friendly and helpful. The location is outstanding with ease to walk to China Town or anywhere else the tourist like. We enjoyed it so much we are going back very very soon It is intimate and perfect for a wkend get a way. If you fly in the Bart is outside the door and so easy not to fight traffic on the freeway. This is our choice hotel in San Francisco from now on. We did not use the spa but plan to next trip. Bravo Starwood for making this a Luxury hotel.
