Fodor's Review:

The vast marble lobby of this Japan Airlines-owned hotel is airy and serene, and its rooms are among the most handsome in the city. Look for gold drapes, wheat-color wall coverings, and ingenious window shades that screen the sun while allowing views of the city. The excellent, complimentary fifth-floor fitness facility has traditional ofuros (Japanese soaking tubs), a kamaburo (Japanese sauna), and a glass-enclosed 16-meter rooftop pool and a whirlpool. KKSF Smooth Sunday Jazz Brunch is hosted live at Restaurant Anzu, which serves prime-beef dishes and sushi. A new gallery space features local artists. A multilingual staff provides attentive, sincere service throughout the hotel. Celebrity guests have included Jimmy Carter, Robert Redford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Brokaw, Flavor Flav, Kristi Yamaguchi, and the president of South Korea, Roh Moo-hyun.

Nikke Hotel - Once Nice Now Old

Posted by John from New York on 7/27/06

Once one of the best places to stay in San Francisco. The service is still very good, but the rooms are a bit run down. Dirty bathroom, stained carpet and parking at $45 per night. This is not 4-star accomodations. The hotel is about 20-years old now. It's time to upgrade.

Needs A Soul

This is a very odd, cold hotel with zero charm and warmth. You can get it for under $100 on Hotwire so I guess it's a bargain. The homeless situation around the Union Square area is out of control so I would opt for the Embarcadero area instead.
