This may be the most luxurious hotel in the city, and some guests remark that it is more hip and modern than other hotels in the chain. Rooms have cream-color, leather-textured walls and window seats; 85% have views of the city. In the tech department there are 42-inch plasma-screen TVs and cordless remotes that do everything from raising the motorized window shades and controlling the entertainment systems to providing weather and other electronic information. Baths, with limestone tiling and an additional TV, have deep soaking tubs and separate showers with shower heads that rain straight down. All suites and some rooms have 24-hour butler service. There's a two-level spa-health club with 10 treatment rooms and a 50-foot lap pool, and the showplace lobby has an elegant bar and restaurant and a two-sided open fireplace that's 16 feet long.

St. Regis is not Saintly...
Posted by Perigrinator from Washington, DC on 9/13/07
I stayed at the St. Regis twice - the first time was pure bliss; the second time was sheer hell. The hotel is beautiful, the architecture, the bar, the rooms, the gadgetry, all wonderful - the service is atrocious! My first stay, the service was impeccable and understated, just what I expected; my second stay, the service was horrid and snobbish. I even complained to Starwood and they told me that they would attempt to resolve the complaint - the did attempt - and the manager of the hotel called and upbraided me for complaining! How's that for service? I called Starwood to complain again and they admitted they had had several complaints and there was not much they could do except apologize and give me lots of star points - nothing, however, will make up for my horrible stay at St. Regis...

Expensive but excellent

I travel to San Francisco about once a month for two or three nights each time. The St Regis has beautiful rooms (especially the Metropolitan Suites), fantastic service and excellent food... the location is also perfect. Better for me than the Four Seasons and Mandarin, the only competitor is the Ritz-Carlton and it does not benefit from the newly-furnished, stunning rooms.

Stayed in an Astor suite and it was fantastic. The views were great, the size @ 711 sq feet was kinda posh...the smaller rooms, while nice, are well...small. The service is wonderful, the people are friendly & helpful.
I'd definitely stay @ the St. Regis again.

Chimes at midnight (and beyond)
Posted by Josh from San Francisco on 1/1/06
When you pay $51.00 for overnight parking, $71.00 for breakfast for two (in the dining room; room service, we were warned, would be forty-five minutes in coming), and sleep in a Grand Deluxe Park View room priced at the same level, you expect certain basic amenities. A decent-sized closet, a coffee maker, and more floor space would all have been welcome. And while motorized drapes and flat screen TVs are diverting, at the end of the day you want a good night's sleep. This is what you don't get at the St. Regis, where the cardboard thin walls transmit every hallway noise with perfect audio fidelity. Especially annoying are the loud chimes that announce the arrival of an elevator. Even five doors down the hall from the elevator bank, the din is penetrating enough to waken a tired man throughout the night. Of course I could have asked the 24 hour "butler" for ear plugs...
