Chaat Café

$, Indian, SoMa

User Rating: ***** 4.8

Fodor's Review:

This no-frills spot (part of a small chain) trades in cheap and tasty Indian snacks called chaat. Standout dishes include pani puri, small, hollow bread puffs you fill with seasoned potatoes and chickpeas, and chicken and fish pakora fritters. Chewy naan is served alongside simple fish, lamb, chicken, and vegetable curries. The flatbread is also used for wraps, including one filled with tandoori chicken, onions, and cilantro. Lassi (a yogurt drink) lovers can satisfy their cravings with salty, sweet, and mango versions. At lunchtime, order at the counter; come dinner, tableside service is usually in effect.

Very good lunch

At about the same price as a deli sandwich, their Chicken wrap makes for a great lunch.

Don't miss out

What a great place! Think Baja Fresh during it's heyday, but with Indian food. The uber-flavorful wraps are a great idea. According to the website they are expanding so there will possibly one near you soon, unitil then don't miss it when you visit SF.
