$-$$, French, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
What a difference a ballpark makes. Until the opening of nearby Petco Park in 2004, the intersection of 9th and G was far from everywhere. Now it's the center of a district of luxury high-rises and hotels, and the area's new residents make Cafe Chloe their headquarters. Pretty and Parisian, it charms as a quiet spot for afternoon coffee and bustles at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, when the kitchen turns out such creative fare as smoked trout and apple salad, a casserole of macaroni, pancetta, and Gorgonzola, and a lobster vol-au-vent. The hand-rolled croissants served at breakfast are remarkable.
