Fodor's Review:

This pink Spanish-Mediterranean confection drew Hollywood film stars in the 1930s and '40s with its setting and views of La Jolla Cove. Many rooms, although small, have a genteel European look, with antique pieces and richly colored rugs. The personal attention provided by the staff, as well as the plush robes and grand bathrooms, make the stay even more pleasurable. The hotel is right in the middle of the shops and restaurants of La Jolla village. Rates are lower if you're willing to look out on the village rather than the ocean. Be sure to stroll the tiered gardens in back.

Raze it and replace it

Posted by Bill from Chicago on 5/29/06

Small rom (we had to shuffle sideways around the bed) - hideous decor - nice bathroom - no room for clothes in the closet (it's taken up by safe and mini bar) - loud noise outside our (broken) window made it difficult to sleep. Public areas are nice, but the rooms worse than a Motel 8. My suggestion: raze this hotel and replace it, historic or not.
