$-$$, Eclectic, Pacific Beach
Fodor's Review:
A funky mix of Asian and Latin fare mingles on the inventive menu at this popular beachy restaurant created by chef and cookbook author Isabel Cruz. A huge teak Buddha reposes coolly in one corner, playing yin to the yang of spicy Latin inspired fare. The day starts early with coconut French toast, carnitas pork scramble with guacamole and black beans, and healthy egg white dishes. Lunch and dinner dishes include crispy wontons with ahi tuna, steak and chicken lettuce wraps, fragrant Buddha bowls of soba noodles and vegetables in coconut and lemon grass broth, spicy roasted Dragon chicken, and grilled salmon with house-made salsas. Save room for the house-made sautéed bananas and decadent flourless chocolate cake. Chef's table dinners offer a chance to learn about Cruz's approach to cuisine while having a unique dining experience in the kitchen.
