Omni San Diego Hotel

$$$$, Gaslamp Quarter

User Rating: **** 3.7

Fodor's Review:

The product of burgeoning downtown growth, this modern masterpiece occupies the first 21 floors of a 32-story high-rise, overlooking Petco Park baseball stadium. Though built for the business traveler, the hotel attracts a fair share of sports fans (it's connected to the stadium by a skybridge). The modern lobby is simply stunning; all rooms have windows that open to the breeze, and most have views of the ocean, bay, the downtown skyline, or the Petco outfield. Pleasantly decorated, rooms have DVD players and soothing sound machines. The pool terrace has a stone fireplace, outdoor dining, and a tanning area.

Fantastic convention location

Posted by tyleach from Fort Lauderdale on 2/20/07

The people giving this hotel low marks are ridiculous. The lobby smells like fish? Well maybe that's because top notch outpost of McCormack & Schmicks seafood restaurant and large bar is just off lobby. Gee, no payphone in lobby; who uses payphones! Very luxurious modern business persons hotel across from SD Convention Center, adjacent to PetCo Park to take in a Padres Game. Sure there is construction as this is a booming downtown area. Area is NOT seedy at all. Top choice for conventions.

Sleek and stylish. My corner room on the 16th floor was huge, comfortable and clean! Friendly and helpful staff. Great location for convention center.

Not For Vacationers

Posted by Ronnie from New York City on 11/18/05

Stayed here in November, just two weeks ago. Lobby is tiny and cold. You can smell an acrid fish-odor coming from the hotel's restaurant. Check-in was fast, but not warm or helpful. For example, there is no 3rd floor in the elevator, so if in order to get there, I had to run up and down the staircases to try and figure it out. There is an out-door pool, which is almost hot and very, very shallow, so you cannot swim in it. There are loud, obnoxious businessmen and women almost everywhere you turn, evidently at meetings in the hotel. The neighborhood is seedy and ugly.

Omni San Diego left a salty taste

Posted by Sara from Orlando on 11/9/05

Over all, i was a little let down. The saltwater pool was very nice, warm, with pumped in music underwater. The fitness room was modern but was always very crowded and the TV's were always blaring, when small personal telivisions are provided. Elevator service was a little slow, espeecilly on the 6th floor. The room was decent, with 21st centurty headboards, and a CD and DVD player, but the TV cabinet door would not stay open and flapped in front. If you are not a buissness traveler (to whom this hotel caters to and is overun with) I would give this hotel a pass on my next vist to the city, due to the noisy area and number of guests staying for buissness purpoes.
