The San Diego Chargers (9449 Friars Rd., Mission Valley. 619/280-2121 or 877/242-7437. www.chargers.com) of the National Football League fill Qualcomm Stadium from August through December. Games with AFC West rivals the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos are particularly intense.

The San Diego State University Aztecs (619/283-5808. www.goaztecs.com) compete in the Mountain West Conference and attract the most loyal fans in town, with attendance rivaling and sometimes surpassing that of the NFL Chargers. The biggest game of the year is always a showdown with Brigham Young University. Like the Chargers, the Aztecs also play their home games at Qualcomm Stadium. The Holiday Bowl (619/283-5808), one of college football's most watched playoff games, takes place in Qualcomm Stadium around the end of December.
