Greyhound serves Santa Cruz and Monterey from San Francisco three or four times daily. The trips take about 3 and 4 1/2 hours, respectively. Monterey-Salinas Transit provides frequent service between the peninsula's towns and many major sightseeing spots and shopping areas. The base fare is $2, with an additional $2 for each zone you travel into. A day pass costs $4.50 to $9, depending on how many zones you'll be traveling through. Monterey-Salinas Transit also runs the WAVE shuttle, which links major attractions on the Monterey waterfront. The free shuttle operates late May through early September, weekdays from 10 to 7 and weekends and holidays from 10 to 8.
