Major attractions in the southern California area are wheelchair accessible, as are shopping malls, performance venues, and movie theaters. Guides for visitors with disabilities are available at Disneyland and Universal Studios. Griffith Park has a notable play area: Shane's Inspiration, a universally acceptable playground.
Most major car-rental agencies provide cars equipped for travelers with disabilities for little or no extra cost. State laws provide special privileges, such as license plates allowing special parking spaces, unlimited parking in time-limited spaces, and free parking in metered spaces. ID from states other than California is honored.
LAX offers a special assistance vehicle for passengers with disabilities or special needs. For a guide to the airport's facilities for travelers with disabilities, check LAX's Web site. SuperShuttle can provide accessible airport shuttle service.
All public buses and rail transportation are accessible for people with disabilities; lifts or low floors accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. Braille signs are posted in rail stations.
